Mobile Project: Improving Crypto Wallet App Abra

My Role

As a user, I wasn’t happy with the experience that the Crytocurrency Wallet iOS App, Abra, was providing me. I decided to place myself in the shoes of the Abra PM and see how I can make product improvements.

The Situation

I wanted to be more invested in the Cryptocurrency market and choose Abra to achieve this. As I began using the app more, I identified some glaring user issues.

The User Problem

The core issue was that Abra was focused on the transaction, and not on the holistic experience of investing. I was easily able to spend money and own Cryptocurrency, however, I wasn’t able to see how my investments were doing in the app, and I had to leave the app and leverage other news sources to stay up-to-date with the latest cryptocurrency news. There was an opportunity to create new features to improve engagement which would add both user and business value.

Defining a Product Solution

I proceeded to assess the possible types of users that would be affected by this user issue and leveraged data generated from my competitive analysis to come up with a MVP, a shadow button - “News” tab to A/B test with a select group of users. Those who click would be directed to a page informing them that the feature is in development and to give users the option to opt in for updates.

Getting Buy-In

If the data collected from the MVP validated hypothesis that users were interested in getting crypto news in app, I would then assess the cost of engineering and UX resources required, and make projections of the impact on user & business value.

Launching & Results

In preparation for launching this feature, I would work with our marketing team to prepare blog posts, app notifications, and coordinate with customer support to ensure they are aware of best practices and to route any tickets related to the news feature to me. I would keep track of metrics and usage trends and hold a post mortem meeting with engineering, design stakeholders to debrief them on what went well and what could be improved.
